The Miracle at Naples
Role: Tristano
Dates: Spring 2009 (through May 9)
Location: Virginia Wimberly Theatre — Huntington Theatre Company, Boston, MA
In spring 2009, Pedro Pascal starred as Tristano in the world premiere of The Miracle at Naples, a bawdy and exuberant comedy by David Grimm, directed by Peter DuBois. Set in 1580 Naples during the annual celebration of the liquefaction of Saint Gennaro’s blood, the play blended commedia dell’arte antics, slapstick, and unabashedly adult humor.
Pedro’s Tristano was a swaggering, charming member of a traveling troupe of actors who arrive in Naples to perform during the festival—only to find the miracle has failed to occur. As the day spirals into lust, rivalry, and romantic confusion, Tristano finds himself entangled in both the troupe’s schemes and an unexpected attraction that disrupts the usual comic beats with moments of tenderness.
The production embraced chaos and satire, with the cast performing broad physical comedy against the backdrop of a vividly rendered Neapolitan piazza. Pedro’s mix of charisma, comic timing, and theatrical presence helped anchor the whirlwind of characters and plots, adding warmth and wit to a play that reveled in its own outrageousness.
