Lobby Hero
Role: Jeff
Dates: August – September 2003
Location: Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater, Wellfleet, Massachusetts
In the summer and early fall of 2003, Pedro Pascal—then billed as Alexander Pascal—appeared as Jeff in Lobby Hero, a sharply observed comedy-drama by Kenneth Lonergan, the Academy Award-winning writer and director of Manchester By The Sea. Directed by Sam Weisman, the production was staged at Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
Jeff, a stalled-out security guard with a tendency to blurt out whatever pops into his head, is both charmingly guileless and hopelessly awkward. Pedro’s performance brought a mix of humor, vulnerability, and sharp comic timing to the role, earning praise for capturing Jeff’s endearing lack of finesse while still making him believable and sympathetic.
The play follows Jeff as he navigates questions of loyalty, moral compromise, and personal responsibility while getting tangled in the complicated lives of his supervisor and a rookie cop. Under Weisman’s direction, the production balanced humor and pathos, with Pedro lending Jeff a warmth and irresistible adorability that made the character unforgettable.
